Competition now open

-

CREATIVE shutterbugs across the region are preparing to take a shot at more than $8000 in prizes in the 29th annual Heritage Bank Photographic Awards.

Entries are now open for the national competition in two categories including the open category and the passion category.

In the open category the choice of subject is totally up to the photographer and the themed category passion is up to the photographer’s interpretation.

Darling Downs resident have experienced great success in the awards over recent years.

In 2015 three local photographers picked up major awards. Just last year Bridie Wendt was awarded the Young Photographer Award and Edwin Mangabat was named winner of the

Alwyn Kucks Memorial Award and runner up in the themed category.

Heritage Bank CEO Peter Lock said the competition continued to enjoy widespread success among professional and amateur photographers alike.

“The beauty of this competition is that it’s so easy for people to get involved,” Mr Lock said.

“There are no entry fees and entrants simply jump online to upload their photo into the competition.”

Mr Lock said the awards gave people a chance to showcase their photographic creativity locally, nationally and all over the world.

“You can be a professional photographer, or someone who just purely enjoys taking photos in their spare time,” he said.

“We’re encouraging you to share the moments that inspire you.

“I’m really looking forward to seeing the diversity of subjects covered in the open category and this year’s passion themed category also lends itself to many exciting interpretations.

“It could be the intense emotion that a new relationship brings; the passion an athlete has for their chosen sport; or the powerful bond between parent and child – the possibilities are endless.”

The competition is open to Australian residents with no background or experience restrictions in place.

The winners of the open and themed categories each receive $1500. The CEO’s Choice award winner will receive $500.

The winner of the Bruce Mackenzie Memorial Award for young photographers will receive $1000, courtesy of the Mackenzie Family and the Toowoomba Chronicle. The Alwyn Kucks Memorial Award of $500 will go to an image from an entrant residing within a 50km radius of Toowoomba.

There are also prizes on offer in three youth categories: seven-nine years; 10-13; and 14-17.

Entries close on June 30. The winners will be announced in August and the top 50 images will go on exhibition at the USQ Arts Gallery in Toowoomba from September 5 to October 5.
