Fires reignite safety warnings

-

RESIDENTS are being urged to review and inspect internal fireplaces and heaters after two house fires overnight Tuesday.

Working smoke alarms woke Dalby resident Chase Tasker moments after his Hayden St home caught fire about 2am yesterday.

“I heard the smoke alarm going off and it woke me,” Mr Tasker told the Dalby Herald yesterday.

“I rolled out of bed and the house was already full of smoke.

“I went straight outside and called 000.”

The fire had taken hold on the timber structure which was well alight when Queensland Fire and Emergency Services arrived on scene.

Dalby police Senior Constable Matthew Minz said the fire was not considered suspicious but would be investigated.

It was the second house fire incident QFES were called to overnight Tuesday.

A Millmerran home was damaged when a fireplace is believed to have sparked a blaze in a wall cavity about 11pm Tuesday.

QFES crews were called to the Millmerran-Inglewood Rd property and managed to contain the fire to the wall area.

QFES crews remained on scene more than 40 minutes cooling down the scene.

Residents have been urged to ensure their homes are fitted with working smoke alarms and to inspect fireplaces and electrical heating appliances.
