Love of clothes becomes business for young fashionistas
AS SOON as she graduated from high school, Courtney Alexander dreamed of opening her own business.
She spent last year working at City Beach, which was when she knew exactly what kind of business to own.
Combining her efforts with her older sister Jade, the now 19-year-old is co-owner of an online clothing boutique.
The two sisters run Rose Ann Boutique. The name is a combination of their middle names.
“I can’t imagine how many photos there must be of me playing dress-ups growing up,” Courtney laughed.
“Fashion is a wonderful thing because clothes makes people feel better. People who can’t afford nice clothes feel out-of-trend so we wanted to provide everyone with something.”
Her sister Jade, 25, agreed. “As locals we know what events are coming up and as much as there are many options at shopping centres now, we wanted to be different by being in the middle-price range,” she said.
Rose Ann Boutique sells women’s clothing with an urban and bohemian edge.
It stocks brands like Ava, Harper and Me, Mia and more.
Courtney, a former Toowoomba State High School student, felt humbled to co-own a business at such a young age.
“Last year I really loved working in retail and I really loved working with clothes and helping customers pick out clothes,” she said.
“I went to university for a little while and knew straight away it wasn’t for me.
“Then one night I went over to Jade’s house for dinner and it all just clicked and the business came together so fast.
“Young people who have passion should follow that passion.”
Prior to opening, the sisters ran online competitions to gain interest. They’ll now run competitions monthly.
