OWNERS of TripAdvisor’s number one Toowoomba restaurant have opened another, to the delight of residents in the city’s southern suburbs.

Ice ’N’ Spice now has a takeaway version of its Northlands Shopping Centre restaurant at High Street Shopping Centre.

It’s owned by Jasvinder Jammu and Gurpreet Kaur. As if their five-month-old son Ekamvir doesn’t keep them busy enough, the couple were keen to open at a second location.

“We have loyal customers from all over Toowoomba,” Mrs Kaur said.

“So we wanted to bring something to this side of town to save customers the drive.”

To follow Indian traditions, Mr Jammu’s parents Jasveer Singh Jammu and Narender Raur officially opened the second restaurant by cutting a red ribbon on Thursday morning.

Indian treats like gulab jamuns, pakoras and samosas were served as everyone cheered for the young family.

Jasvinder Jammu hails from Rajasthan, a northern state of India famous for its rich culture and food.

He moved to Toowoomba in 2012 and worked as a chef at a local pub.

During this time, he coined the idea to introduce the Garden City to the deliciously unique taste of northern Indian cuisine.

With his wife, they opened the first Ice ’n’ Spice restaurant in 2014.

Mr Jammu credited the restaurant’s success to the business’s core family values.

“We’re definitely a family restaurant and I can’t thank our chefs enough,” he said.

“My message to Toowoomba is, thank you for the support, for allowing our cooking into your homes or choosing to dine with us – you are the reason we could open this second restaurant and we hope you enjoy it.”

The couple plans to eventually move the first restaurant closer to the CBD. Ice ’N’ Spice at High Street Shopping Centre is open 5-9pm on Monday and Tuesday and from 11.30am-2pm and 5-9pm Wednesday to Sunday.
