Joy from start to finish
RACING: Wins to trainer Matt Kropp bookended Saturday night’s meeting at Clifford Park.
The Kropp stable got things off to a great start when Beach Drum kick-started her career with victory in the Ubet QTIS Two-Year-Old Maiden Plate (1200m).
Beach Drum ($2.90fav) worked her way up through the field and pounced at the right time to beat home Longing For ($3.60) by a three-quarter length with Ruby Ride in the saddle.
Another of Kropp’s inexperienced runners also broke their maiden in the last race of the night when Make No Mistake triumphed in the K&R Plumbing Supplies Maiden Plate (1100m).
Make No Mistake ($1.50fav) was too good on the way to a three-and-a-half length win over Rosie’s Tiara ($3.70).
It was also a good night for Nozi Tomizawa as he rode three winners to close the gap to Skye Bogenhuber in the Clifford Park jockey’s premiership.
Tomizawa piloted Benico’s Prince ($8.50) to a win by a nose over Unique Mistique ($4.40) in the Toowoomba Plastics Benchmark 70 Handicap (1625m) before backing up with a two-and-a-half length win on board In Kobe ($3.80) in the Audi Centre Toowoomba Maiden Handicap (1625m) in the next race.
He followed that up with a third win for the night in race six when Kevin Kemp-trained Red Hot Secret prevailed by a head in the Nuturf Class 1 Handicap (1050m).
