Tick for plan to reignite community

-

I WISH to compliment and congratulate Toowoomba Regional Council for initiating an incredibly rewarding plan to reinvent rural towns and reignite community spirit.

Citizens of Millmerran last week experienced the wonderfully exciting “seven-day makeover” of our town, which created a brand new look with the place to shop, relax and chat, and for children to play.

Those of us who participated in this project experienced a wonderful week of design, creation, and completion of a range of community projects with bright ideas, hard work, laughter, genuine community spirit and the total satisfaction of a job well done.

All of this project was preceded by the decision of the Toowoomba Regional Council to engage the services of a world-renowned small town remake “guru”, David Engwicht of Creative Communities, to encourage and direct citizens to develop their own ideas for a new, instantly recognisable and memorable Millmerran, in an organised group workshop atmosphere, and then carry these ideas through to fruition.

All of the ideas for reinventing country spirit in our town were created by a small workshop team and a few residents (one of whom has been living here for only six weeks), with some of the many ideas created coming from suggestions by Millmerran’s school children.

Toowoomba Regional Council provided the much-needed initial funding for the program as well as friendly enthusiastic staff, and generous commitments from local business and volunteers did the rest.

Why not visit Millmerran and view the results of the dedicated community spirit?

Sincere thanks, Toowoomba Regional Council.
