The Champion of Champion Fours were played at the weekend with nine clubs participat­ing. The quarter-finals resulted in wins for Laidley over Pittsworth, Crows Nest df Toowoomba, Norths df Souths and Drayton df Wests. The semi-finals saw Laidley df Crows Nest and Norths df Drayton. The final was won by the Norths team of J.Williams, G.Elton, G.James and G.Bradford defeating the Laidlley team of D.McGiure, C.Bowles, G.Lee and

D.Bowles in a very close game. Nomination form for the Associatio­n Pairs to be played at Wests on June 24-25. Nomination­s close Friday June 16. Draw at Norths Monday June 19.

Last Sunday’s council of delegates meeting lapsed due to a lack of quorum. Next meeting will be the AGM in August.

CITY

Tomorrow, 5pm. The usual social night. Coaching is on Tuesdays 2-3.30pm. Roll-ups welcome. Coaching for club members is free. Tuition for members of other clubs will require a small fee. Wednesday June 14, 12.30pm: Club or self-selected triples. Have your name in by 11.30am (phone 4639 2273) and arrive by 12.15pm to allow teams to be finalised. Sheet open. Office roster: S. Cook. COMBINED SERVICES

Our five-day bowls trip to Gold Coast is now from Thursday November 2 until Monday November 6 and we will be staying at Surfers Paradise. We will be playing bowls at Mudgeeraba, Cabarita and Mermaid Beach. Any bowler on the downs that would like to travel with us is more than welcome. CROWS NEST

Wednesday May 31 afternoon social bowls was won by Tony Ryan, Peter Coman and Brian Gleeson; while Alan Richardson, Ray Weis and Les Chikos picked up second place.

Results of intraclub tournament bowls played on Saturday June 3 were: Club-selected Pairs - Alan Richardson and Howard Cornwell def Roy Bell and Mick Chandler.

Competitio­n match called for Saturday June 10: Club-selected Fours - Kerry Lovell, Dennis Russell, Vince Vaz and Howard Cornwell vs Don Collins, Trevor Gillies, Shane Case and Ian Prodger. Sunday June 4 mixed social bowls afternoon was won by Bill Perry and Alan Greenwood, while Alan Richardson, Roger Haldane and Aileen Cox took out the runners-up prize.

DRAYTON

NORTH TOOWOOMBA

Congratula­tions to our championsh­ip fours team of Jim Williams, Graham Elton, Greg James and Gavin Bubbles Bradford on their win in the Champion of Champion fours played at Souths last weekend. They defeated Laidley 24 -14 in the final. Like our singles champion, they will move on to the next phase, the Zonal playoffs with the winner qualifying for the State Champion of Champion carnival.

Last weekend was the final of the B grade singles with the winner Glen Gainey who defeated Tony Spanjol in the final. Congratula­tions to our new A grader in Glen Gainey.

Today is our usual men’s triples from 12.30pm. Visitors welcome please call 4639 2338 prior to 11.30am. Club house and amenities will be open from 10am daily. Roll up or practice must be East – West, check with bar staff. Friday night bar roster is Kylie. Men’s kitchen roster Steve Barnes, Brian Bowe, Terry Brown, Mark Ellem and Tony Spanjol. Bar roster for Saturday Greg James and Sunday Gary Ruhle.

Dates for the diary. Nomination­s are now open for the NTBC Classic Pairs on July 1-2. Get your team organised and support this event.

Next Tuesday mixed Jackpot pairs starting at 1pm. Names can be phoned in from 11am if you are interested in a game.

Also on the home front is the next round of RDO is Saturday June 17 where we need 12 players.

Four players are required to represent the club in the Tresize Shield at Pittsworth on Sunday July 2 from 9am. There are two games.

Please keep Saturday July 15 free. This will be President’s Day and everyone is welcome to play mixed fours or otherwise from 9.30am for a 10am start. Cost is $15.

OAKEY

PAST PRESIDENTS

Next meeting of the Downs Branch of the Bowls Past Presidents’ Associatio­n of Queensland will be on Tuesday June 20 at 9am at South Toowoomba Bowls Club. Subs are now overdue.

PITTSWORTH

Results of the Town and Country triples played last Wednesday are winners Stewart Cameron’s team, Runners up was Lester Harveys team and best round went to Aaron Harveys team.

Semi final of the mixed fours is to be played by this Sunday. Sub or forfeit between Jon King, Shane Greentree, Macca and Belle hohn v Pat, Andrew, Steven Talbot and Ken Coutts. The winner to play the final against Darby Coutts, Jamie Johnston, Kirstie Rosenbauer and Stumpy on June 18. The men’s section AGM is on Saturday July 22 at noon (followed by bowls) to select a new president, games director and three to four selectors. The combined AGM is on Sunday August 20 at 9:30am in the club’s dining room. Our fours team had no luck in the Champion of Champions last Saturday. Nomination­s are now being called for the mixed pairs, triples and fours. Closing on Sunday June 18, get your teams together.
