External dryness is just what it sounds like; it’s dry outside and that is causing the moisture to be pulled out of your skin, think of winter weather. Eczema can also be caused by internal dryness in TCM. In TCM theory the blood brings moisture to the skin and if you are blood deficient you naturally will not have enough blood to bring that moisture to the skin. One becomes blood deficient by losing blood (trauma or menstruation) or by not producing enough (due to a nutritional deficiency). Finally, with eczema there is sometimes red, itching patches.
