THE Coffee Club at Grand Central will serve its last coffee on Sunday, after more than 20 years operating in the shopping centre.

Jon McCorley and his business partners own the Coffee Club at Grand Central and across the road at Margaret St.

He said as sad as it was to say goodbye, it was time to move on.

“It is all about progress and it was just time to close up shop,” he said.

“We want to thank all our loyal customers and invite them to come and say goodbye to the store and the staff.”

The store is well-known in the centre and is a meeting point for many people catching up with friends.

Manager Jesse Bonell has worked at the Coffee Club at Grand Central for 10 years.

He said they had been slowly breaking the news of the closure to their customers over the past couple of weeks.

“Everyone knows us here.

We have so many regulars who are disappointed and you don’t realise how many loyal regulars we have until you have to say goodbye to them all,” he said.

“There are a tremendous number of people who have been loyal to the Coffee Club for years.”

He said the staff were also disappointed about the closure.

“I think everyone is taking it a bit hard but it has been a wonderful experience,” he said.

“We would love everyone to come down and say goodbye and we just want to thank everyone for supporting us.”

The Coffee Club on Margaret St will continue to trade as normal, open seven days a week.

Mr McCorley said although the stores were different in the way they were run, he was sure people would continue to support the Margaret St store.

“They are very different in terms of service; one is table service, while the other is counter service,” he said.

“A lot of people visit both stores but it might be a change for some people.”
