Trbojevics reunite to boost the Sea Eagles

- — Dean Ritchie

TOMMY hasn’t played a game in 26 days. Jake will play his third match in 10 days.

The Trbojevic brothers – whether fresh or weary – will combine again tonight to brighten the wet Brookvale gloom.

Star fullback Tom returns a fortnight early from a leg injury suffered in the loss to the Broncos in Brisbane on May 13.

He has trained strongly this week and will slot back in at fullback for Manly’s match against Newcastle, with Matt Wright shifting to wing.

Jake made his State of Origin debut last week and the 23-year-forward old then backed up four days later for the thrilling win over Canberra on Sunday.

Manly coach Trent Barrett hoped the brothers would inspire their teammates to another victory heading into next week’s bye.

“Tom’s right. I wouldn’t be risking him unless he is 100% but he is looking good at this stage,” Barrett said.

“He has done a full week of training.”

Asked about Jake’s heroics, Barrett said: “He would have to be missing a leg not to train or play. We have looked after him this week. He’s done very little ... much to his dismay.

“He hates missing training. He wasn’t happy but he is feeling pretty good actually.

“Jake was pretty excited about the whole Origin week. I thought he played really well in Origin and he will only get better. He is real important to us too.”

Asked if the Sea Eagles might fall into the trap of taking last-placed Newcastle lightly, Barrett said: “No game is easy – we won’t be complacent.

“We have trained really well again and we have a bit of a look about us. The players are pretty determined at the moment.”
