Nature calls with latest colour trends

- With Tracey Hordern

INDUSTRY experts such as those working for Dulux are the new futurists of our times. Not only are they the fortune tellers of colour trends, they wield enormous commercial clout when it comes to influencing our home decor.

The latest colour palette range from Dulux, The Antidote: A Colour Cure, is based on providing a remedy of nature in our interiors and lives. These chosen colours are a direct response to the stresses of contemporary times and the effects of a digital age that has most of us spending hours in front of cold computer screens every day.

The Dulux Colour of the Year for 2017 is Denim Drift. A beautiful, timeless and versatile grey-blue, as in nature, this colour takes on a different characteristic depending on how it’s used. The thinking behind the choice of Denim Drift is that if you’re going to look anywhere for inspiration, it’s impossible to trump the innate appeal of nature.

According to Louise Tod, Dulux senior colour designer – global aesthetic centre: “As the world becomes more passionate about issues surrounding the environment, this love for nature infiltrates the way we are living and our priorities in life. If your home is your sanctuary, you’ll especially enjoy these cool wall colours to create a calm, inviting mood.

“We are all connected to nature,” Tod says. “And yet we live in an overwhelmingly urban and digital world. Although this trend comes from a place that is deeply considered, these colours evoke a boho, eclectic fashion that immerses you in the natural world.”
