Preview of action in TRL
TRL: Two crucial competition points and the chance to end Dalby’s unbeaten run are not the only things Highfields will be playing for in its blockbuster Hutchinson Builders TRL Premiership clash at Dalby tonight.
Undefeated Dalby hosts the equal second-placed Highfields in the latest edition of an exciting run pitting the top four teams against each other.
It will be a big occasion for the Diehards as they host a club reunion at Dalby Leagues Club, so the current crop of players will be determined to put out a strong performance in front of the many old boys who will be attending.
The Diehards will also be keen to maintain their unbeaten record heading into next weekend’s Madsen-Rasmussen Trophy Final.
Who they play is still to be decided and tonight’s game between the Diehards and Eagles has a large bearing on else will play in the mid-season final.
Heading into this weekend’s round 11, it looks as though Highfields needs to down Dalby to have a chance of sitting second on the ladder after every team has played each other once.
Also in a tie for second spot is Valleys, who host 10th-placed Oakey tomorrow, and the Roosters look
capable of beating the Bears even though the visitors tested Dalby last weekend.
That leaves Highfields with the task of trying to bring down Dalby for the first time this season and leave it to for-and-against if the Eagles want the chance to play for the club’s first piece of major TRL A grade silverware.
Highfields will come up against a Diehards team bolstered by the returns of Central Division representatives Jason Wardrop, Steve Franciscus and Corey Blades after the trio played at the QRL Divisional Championships last weekend.
“We are looking forward to the evening,” Dalby coach Kerry Carmichael said.
“Playing a top team and having a reunion at the club is just great.”
The Eagles should be confident heading into the possible Madsen-Rasmussen Trophy Final preview having beaten Pittsworth in a quality game last round.
