Find new pieces for your wardrobe
It’s always great to get out and buy some new pieces for your wardrobe during the change of seasons. Reporter KATE DODD shares her favourite winter must-haves from some of Toowoomba’s local clothing boutiques
THE only thing that makes me happy about the arrival of winter - other than being able to get out my massive collection of scarves - is shopping.
The start of a new season (especially winter because there are endless sales to be had for the end of financial year) is the best time to give your wardrobe a bit of a clean-out and facelift.
As always a hoodie is a must for winter (the good old hoodie and oversized jumper/sweater is seeing a comeback with people like Kylie Jenner wearing them all over Instagram) and you’re not doing winter style right if you don’t own a pair of awesome boots.
You don’t have to go to the big chain stores to find that perfect new piece or outfit either, there are plenty of fabulous local stores that stock great clothing.
So here are my top buys for winter, from Toowoomba’s boutiques.
Smoke and Mirrors Gaze Shawl Collar Knit
A VEST is certainly a winter essential and if you need a new one look no further than Smoke and Mirrors.
This one from designer Elliatt is $189.95 and has a shawl collar at the front and fanned out details in the back.
Endurance Coat
OR IF you need a new coat, the Endurance Coat by Magic Range ($129) is the perfect addition to any outfit.
It’ll keep you warm layered with a winter dress or casually with jeans.
Buy them both at www.smokeandmirrorsboutique.com.au.
Florence and Marabel Double Take Fur Coat
SOME people get a bit iffy when it comes to fur coats.
But this soft, faux fur one by PS The Label ($230)from Florence and Marabel is gorgeous.
Breeze Scarf Brush Stroke Check
SCARVES and winter go hand in hand.
So why not give this Brush Stroke Check scarf by Mela Purdie a whirl. It’s $165.
Get them from www.florenceandmarabel.com.au
Ophelia Boutique Luca Studded Sleeve Jacket (Blue Washed Denim)
I KNOW there’s been a few jackets on here already, but everyone needs to have a denim jacket in their wardrobe.
This is great for winter and it can be worn during the other seasons too.
Buy your size for a slightly oversized fit, or size down for a fitted look.
Jacket is $299.
Without Pity Dress (Popcorn)
THIS fitted ribbed jersey midi length dress is gorgeous.
It features a low curved neckline with press-stud buttons that run from neckline to hemline. Buy it for $189.95. Find them both at www.opheliaboutique.com.au.
Ivy Designer Collections Morrison Smith Dress
THIS dress might be a bit expensive at $399, but it is absolutely fabulous.
It’s an asymmetrical check dress with wide 3/4 sleeves, round neckline, d-ring with tie at front to create shape and an asymmetrical hemline with raw edged detail.
Nobody Cult Skinny Velvet Jeans
YOU can’t go passed a new pair of jeans. These ones ($199) would look great with a denim jacket or a t-shirt. Get them both at www.ivydc.com.au.
Oriri Boutique Luxe Deluxe Rive Gauche Tunic Dress – Black
VELVET is literally the best material to wear in winter.
The Luxe Deluxe Rive Gauche Dress ($265) is made from plush black velvet and will be great worn out on the town.
CMEO Collective Double Take Skirt
SKIRTS are also great in winter, just find a pair of stockings, the perfect skirt and away you go.
The C/meo Collective Double Take Skirt is a fun & flirty mini in a mid weight fabric. It retails for $149.
Buy them at www.oriri.com.au.
