Centre’s work rewarded
Sunrise Way wins award on Qld Day
A TOOWOOMBA drug rehabilitation centre has won the Queensland Day Award in recognition of its contribution to the community.
Sunrise Way, which facilitates a 26-week, evidence-based, psychosocial and holistic rehabilitation program, won the award last week during Toowoomba Queensland Day celebrations.
The organisation’s CEO Wendy Agar said the award showed the centre’s program was delivering results for participants, their families and the wider community.
“Every day we are supporting stronger and healthier communities in our region through helping people living with addiction to rebuild their lives,” she said.
“This award is recognition for the many years of hard work and commitment that has been put in by the staff, volunteers, board, Friends of Sunrise Way and many, many others to develop and provide this quality local
therapeutic service.
“We will celebrate three years of operation in July and have made a significant impact in this short time.
“We are addiction specialists and we are part of the solution in this region.”
Sunrise Way’s integrated, transition program also includes the opportunity for a staged progression back into volunteering, work and the community, through transitional housing.
Toowoomba Region Mayor Paul Antonio, speaking after the event, said he was delighted to see Sunrise Way singled out for their remarkable work.
“The establishment of Sunrise Way has filled a significant gap in our community,” he said.
“There is no doubt that this success is due to the contribution of a number of people who believe in what Sunrise Way offers – hope and a second chance,” Cr Antonio said.
