New name set for reveal at VIP party

EVEN after months of planning, soft launches and plenty of hype, Phil Coorey still has one secret left up his sleeve for the Mills Precinct.

Toowoomba residents will finally learn the official name of the renovated mill on Campbell St tomorrow when the Spotted Cow publican reveals it at a VIP launch party.

Mr Coorey, who won the lease for the area last year, held a handful of events earlier this year to test the infrastructure and layout of the new venue.

But with all the kinks worked out, he said the schedule was already filling up for the rest of 2017.

“I think that it’s taken a while to work out any and all issues to get it ready,” he said.

“It’s a very old building, and at the end of the day it’s probably taken as long as it would to make it a new building.

“The room has really

come alive now, so we’re treating it like a new building.”

“We’ve got lots of inquiries for market days, at this stage between now and December, we have about 20 events.”

Mr Coorey said the open area, high ceilings and

unique ambience made the Mills Precinct a versatile space.

“What the venue is for us is it’s eclectic – we’ve used the venue for a rock concert, and then turned it around to a fundraiser,” he said.

“It’s all about using the blank space in front of us,

and it’s about getting customers who are prepared to approach me and come up with ideas.

“We’ve also used the venue for bands to film film clips, so there’s a real opportunity for creative minds to come and have a look.”

■ The public launch of the Mills Precinct will be ‘Pop Will Eat Itself’ on June 23 from 6pm.
