Madsen-Rasmussen means a lot for rivals

TRL: Valleys have the chance to claim the proud and successful club’s first TRL a grade silverware in a few years when the Roosters host Dalby in tomorrow’s Madsen-Rasmussen Trophy Final.

The Madsen-Rasmussen Trophy returns to stand-alone status this season and will be played at Herb Steinohrt Oval instead of Clive Berghofer Stadium, where change rooms are being renovated.

That gives Valleys the chance to play for a piece of major TRL silverware at home after sitting in the top two with Dalby after 11 rounds.

Valleys has been the dominant club in the TRL the past decade but finals appearances and trophies have dried up in the past few seasons.

That and hosting the game give the Roosters plenty of motivation into battling unbeaten Dalby, which is also searching for its first major trophy since 2010’s Madsen-Rasmussen.

“It’s big. The president has made a bit of a deal about it and it was a goal of his at the start of the year. As we got closer I sort of was looking towards it as well,” Valleys player-coach Brett Seymour said.

“I’m just learning about the heritage and how much success the club has had. It means a lot but we’ve got to build our own dynasty if possible.

“We’ve got a big challenge ahead of us. Dalby are by far the best team in the comp at the moment. They’re littered with great players so the task is ahead of us.”

It is also a big day for Dalby as the Diehards are well represented on Madsen-Rasmussen Day.

“It’s massive for the club. We’ve got all three grades in there this year which is a massive achievement,” Dalby captain Colin Green said.

The Diehards downed Valleys in their previous meeting this season at Dalby but Green is expecting a determined Roosters line-up.
