City well ahead of online trend
TOOWOOMBA is known as something of a trendsetter on the national online retail scene.
Not only have we consistently proven to be among the highest ranking towns and cities for shopping online, we’re also ahead of the curve on technology uptake, according to eBay spokeswoman Megan English.
“For the past 18 years Toowoomba has proved to be one of the savviest postcodes in Australia, outranking almost every other town in Australia when it comes to shopping online and on eBay,” she said.
“The really interesting thing about Toowoomba is that it isn’t just a buying capital, it also has some of the highest rates of successful selling too.
“Toowoomba actually ranks number three nationally in terms of volume of products bought, and number five if you look purely at the dollar amount spent.
“One thing we know about Toowoomba is that it has always been ahead of the mobile shopping curve.
“Currently well over 50% of everything purchased by Toowoomba buyers is bought on a mobile phone which is higher than the national average.”
She said most of us carried out our online shopping between 8-9pm while we’re flopped on the lounge, watching television.
And while we might be buying standard stuff for the most part, there was one area in which we stood out.
“This winter we will see things like quilt covers, women’s jackets and blankets selling really well which probably isn’t all that different to other parts of the country,” Ms English said.
“Where Toowoomba stands out in terms of winter buying is in the pet category.
“It seems there are some pampered pooches in town, because we are seeing lots of warm dog clothes being sold to Toowoomba buyers.
“At other times of the year the women of Toowoomba look to be outspending the men when you look at the list of top trending items.”
