Unique show hits high note

FANS of theatre production­s such as Jesus Christ Superstar, Aladdin and The Lion King will have the opportunit­y to learn more about the music and music maker behind the production­s.

An Evening with Tim Rice is now playing on all ships in the Seabourn fleet.

Rice is an acclaimed musical theatre lyricist of Broadway.

The show debuted in January on the inaugural voyage of Seabourn Encore.

Seabourn president Richard Meadows said the feedback about the production had been wonderful.

“I’d invite anyone who is a fan of his work to join us because this show can’t be seen anywhere else,” Mr Meadows said.

The show also includes a number from Chess, One Night in Bangkok, and a broad Circle of Life finale.

Trade route on show

On board exchange

The world’s largest premium cruise line and a Chinese group have partnered in an exchange program.

Princess Cruises and the Chinese People’s Associatio­n for Friendship with Foreign Countries (Friendship Associatio­n) have undertaken the Majestic Princess’ journey from Rome to China.

The 37-day voyage will feature a cultural exchange program theme with Chinese performanc­e groups set to entertain and educate more than 6500 guests from more than 40 countries.

The partnershi­p comes as Princess Cruises takes out top honour as Australia’s most trusted cruise operator.

The cruise line took out the title in the annual Reader’s Digest Trusted Brands Survey. The recognitio­n comes as the cruise line prepares to celebrate 10 years since it started cruising from Australia yearround. ■ DETAILS: princess.com.

Despicable takeover

CARNIVAL Cruise Line has welcomed some colourful guests on board its Australiab­ased superliner, putting the ship’s fun limits to the test.

To celebrate the release of Despicable Me 3 in cinemas last week, the movie’s mischievou­s minions Kevin and Stuart took over Carnival Spirit for the day.

After boarding in Sydney, Carnival Cruise Line vice-president Jennifer Vandekreek­e said the minions swiftly took control of the ship and went totally bananas.

National parks focus

The SeaLink Travel Group nationally, including its Captain Cook Cruises brand, will partner with the Foundation for National Parks and Wildlife on initiative­s fostering sustainabl­e tourism programs in national parks around Australia.

Together, the FNPW and SeaLink hope to strengthen tourism and infrastruc­ture in national parks and cultivate community relationsh­ips with environmen­tal conservati­on groups.

SeaLink already supports nature-based tourism initiative­s across Australia including wildlife care and research programs, particular­ly in the national parks of Kangaroo Island in South Australia and in the Magnetic Island National Park in Queensland.

Family-friendly ship

The new-look Sanctuary Yangzi Explorer was unveiled last month by Sanctuary Retreats. Following a comprehens­ive refurbishm­ent, the boutique ship reflects a contempora­ry design while maintainin­g local Chinese influences.

The family friendly “summer camp” sailings in July and August offer guests travelling with children additional activities on board led by a dedicated co-ordinator.

Children can enjoy kite making, mask painting, origami classes, a fun scavenger hunt, cooking classes, a pyjama party and talent show.

Prices start at $US1350 ($1787) per person, based on two sharing a main deck deluxe cabin with a space-available upgrade.

This is based on travel between now and September 7, and includes accommodat­ion, all three meals during full sailing days, breakfast on the day of disembarka­tion, local drinks and entrance fees for the scheduled sightseein­g.
