Rovers now in great position for TFL title

FOOTBALL: Rockville have rolled Warwick to give its Toowoomba Football League premiership chances another huge boost.

After collecting the wooden-spoon in 2016, Rovers have cemented their place in the top four and now look a genuine contender for when the finals roll around.

The 5-0 win over Warwick has lifted them into third, and they now have a genuine shot of beating Willowburn and USQ to top spot.

Rockville recruited well in the pre-season and it has taken little time for the new team to gel together.

Their fourth game without a loss came thanks to a brace from Brodie Simpson and Veco Serugo.

With Gatton losing to USQ, Rovers are now in a position that no one saw coming in round one.

The Redbacks were downed 3-2 after holding a 2-1 lead at half-time.

Goals in the second-half from Andrew Crestani and Brendan Willmot secured the win for USQ, who moves into second on the ladder.

Premiers West Wanderers experienced an emphatic return to form in the other game of the men’s round.

A 4-0 win against St Albans boosts their slim chances of making the finals with Gatton in fourth going through a wobble in form.

Saints remain on the bottom of the ladder.

The highlight of the women’s TFL round came from Rockville’s clash with Highfields.

In a rematch of the President’s Cup decider earlier in June, Rovers again ran out the victors.

The 6-0 result proved an easier affair than their last meeting that ended 3-2.

The victory extends their lead at the top of the table to six points.
