Historic homestead backdrop for new feature film

AN HISTORIC homestead on the Western Downs has played a key role in the production of a feature film.

The Second is the first feature film to be developed through a partnership between Stan and Screen Queensland.

The cast and crew of The Second were at Jimbour House for the past few weeks filming part of the psychological thriller.

Paul Wilson from Russell Pastoral Company’s Jimbour House said it had been an absolute pleasure to work with all the cast and crew of The Second.

“It has been a steep learning curve into what goes on behind the scenes,” he said.

“The amount of meticulous planning and sheer hard work is extraordinary.

“All stakeholders most certainly earn all the accolades that they receive. We cannot wait to see the end product.”

Screen Queensland CEO Tracey Vieira said the movie was filmed at Jimbour House as well as at Jandowae and Lake Broadwater in Brisbane.

“The Second will have a national theatrical release,

distributed through Mindblowing World, with the potential to be shown at film festivals across the globe, followed by an exclusive release on Stan,” Ms Vieira said.

Ms Vieira said the film featured the creative team of Queensland-based director Mairi Cameron

and writer/producer Stephen Lance with Leanne Tonkes as producer.

“It is great to see this project now in production with Screen Queensland leading the way in developing local content with talented Queensland practitioners,” Ms Vieira said.

The Second tells the story of two female friends whose lives entwine in the pages of an elusive second novel.

It stars Rachael Blake, Susie Porter, Vince Colosimo, Martin Sacks and Susan Prior.

The Second was named as the initial project from

Screen Queensland Originals Fully Funded Features initiative.

Premier and Minister for the Arts Annastacia Palaszczuk announced last month The Second would have its $1 million production budget fully funded by Screen Queensland.

“The Queensland Originals Fully Funded Feature with Stan program is an Australian-first and is part of our charge to lead Australia in innovative screen content production,” she said.

The Second will premier in cinemas and on Stan in 2018.
