No declaration of war any more

-

I HAVE just watched the film Dunkirk.

Once there used to be a declaration of war between countries - now there is no such thing but infiltration of daily life of communities throughout the globe where “battles” are fought not in areas of conflict, but in the every-day habitat of people going about their daily lives.

Such a change in the way our world “operates” on a daily basis.

All this has resulted from ease of communication between countries, both physically through jet aircraft and electronically using satellite magic. People get around just too much and too easily. Harming our harmony.

Such a changed world since the evacuation of the British expeditionary force from the shores of France in 1940.

What will it be like in the next decade or so?

When Darwin was bombed, Canberra did not know it was happening. I was 10 years old when the Second World War started. — JOHN MACKENZIE, Toowoomba

Following ruling

QUEENSLAND Mines Minister Dr Anthony Lynham has no decision to make regarding Acland Mine.

The Queensland Land Court has considered all the arguments from both sides of the fence and made its decision.

Should the minister go against the Queensland Land Court’s decision then the Premier “My Government” should begin the process of immediately closing the Queensland Land Court and dismissing all the public servants attached to it.

The same scenario applies to Fair Work Australia should the Federal Government decide to rule against its determination about weekend penalty rates

both in the courts and regarding the back-room deals with the likes of Bill Shorten and the large supermarkets.

Ruling against these organisations’ decisions would clearly show that the public service at all levels of government is bloated and not necessary.

And despite the repeated calls by Bill Shorten for an inquiry into everything we don’t need one of those either.

The question is, do both these organisations have the support of the ALP? Are they able to make fearless determinations as they are intended to do or are they just ALP lapdogs that don’t deserve their continued existence?

Both organisations are the ALP’s Frankensteins apparently running amok. — JOHN FRIEND, Toowoomba
