Can you name all bingo calls 1-90?

-

BINGO players all seem to understand a secret language that the rest of us simply don’t get. Those crazy calls that denote the numbers are an entertaining part of the game. Take 37 for example, that’s a flea in heaven, or 73 a crutch with a flea. And who the heck is Dirty Gertie?

Most people have heard of the most common bingo calls such as legs eleven and two fat ladies. But only a true bingo connoisseur could name all 1-90 bizarre bingo calls.

Some are simply rhyming slang, like 35 (jump and jive) or number 3 (cup of tea).

Some have their origins in the military, where men would play bingo during the war. For example, doctor’s orders, number nine, comes from the number system medical officers would use to prescribe laxatives to constipated men in the trenches. If you had a nine on your medical slip, well, you knew what was coming.

Other bingo calls derived from pop culture and celebrities of the time, like 17 dancing Queen, from the hit Abba song, or seven David Beckham.

Then there are the ‘just because’ ones: two (a duck, because the written number apparently resembles a duck), five is snake’s alive (because, again it sort of looks like one), and all the 70s are considered lucky. For example, lucky seven is 77, lucky eight is 78, lucky nine 79 etc.

While many changes come and go, there is one that is sure to stick around – 51 - I love my mum.
