TOOWOOMBA CATTLE

THE supply of stock was reduced by 32% and apart from a few well-presented classes the majority of the young cattle were not up to the standard of the previous week.

Virtually no heavy grown steers and bullocks were penned and there was a reduced number of cows offered.

Buyer attendance on the export slaughter lines was also not as good as the previous sale.

Young light weight cattle to restockers sold to strong demand for the quality penned.

A lift in the standard of the heavy weight yearling steers to feed increased average prices.

The better end of the cows lost 4-6c/kg with the plain condition classes the least affected.

A few vealer heifer pen lots made to 420.2c/kg.

Light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock made to 410.2c/kg with a fair sample close to 378c/kg.

A small selection of medium weight yearling steers to feed averaged 344c/kg and made to 368.2c/kg.

A good sample of heavy weight yearling steers to feed made to a top of 339.2c/kg with most near 330c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers to feed or background made to 340.2c/kg with most around 327c/kg.

Medium weight yearling heifers to feed experience­d stronger demand and made to 329.2c/kg to average 316c/kg.

Medium weight 2 score cows averaged 208c/kg and made to 216c/kg, while the 3 scores made to 225c/kg to average 223c/kg.

Good heavy cows made to 239.2c/kg with most around 233c/kg. Heavy bulls made to 262.2c/kg.

MORETON CATTLE

AGENTS Boyd, O’Brien Bartholome­w reported a yarding of 514 cattle at Moreton on Tuesday.

All buyers were present but were operating under reduced rates.

Values for young cattle returning to the paddock remained firm while export types sold to cheaper rates.

B& R Jackwitz of Grandchest­er sold euro x yearling heifers for 318.2c/kg weighing 207kg to return $660.

G& K Hahn of Gatton sold yearling steers for 341.2c/kg weighing 300kg to return $1023.

JVTP Pty Ltd of Purga sold charbray heifers for 310.2c/kg weighing 327kg to return $1014.

K& J Horrex of Crow’s Nest sold pasture steers for 328.2c/kg weighing 368kg to return $1208.

Droughtmas­ter pasture ox account N& L Ford sold for 290.2c/kg weighing 630kg to return $1828.

J Byrne of Gatton sold brangus steers for 357.2c/kg weighing 256kg to return $915.

N McLaughlin sold feeder heifers for 322.2c/kg weighing 355kg to return $1143.

GYMPIE CATTLE

A GOOD quality yarding of 1962 cattle at Sullivan Livestock’s Gympie sale saw the market remain firm for all descriptio­ns with the exception of good conditione­d vealer heifers, which were cheaper.

Cattle were drawn from Gin Gin, Bundaberg, Maryboroug­h, Teebar, Woolooga, Kilkivan, Tansey, Conondale, Kenilworth, Caloundra, Eumundi and all local areas.

Droughtmas­ter cross steers from Chris Goscomb, Imbil, sold for $3.34/kg to return $1604 and $1581.

Don Law, Kenilworth, sold droughtmas­ter steers for $3.33/kg ($1527 and $1509).

Droughtmas­ter steers from Howard and Brenda Kirby, Gemini Downs, Goomborian, sold for $3.32/kg ($1343 and $1293) and ($1238 and $1187).

High grade brahman steers from Brian & Pam Dray, Woolooga, sold for $3.22/kg ($1072 and $1014).

Quality charbray steers from James O’Connor, Witta, made $3.47/kg for $1116.

Charbray steers from Ian Gould, Teebar, made $3.38/kg ($1062).

Droughtmas­ter cross charbray weaner steers from the Wagner Family, Gunalda, sold for $3.67/kg ($975 and $924) and $3.59/kg ($933 and $902).

Fitzgerald & Co, Oakview, Kilkivan, sold droughtmas­ter cross steers for $3.75/kg ($869 and $862) and $3.81/kg ($821).

Euro cross steers from the Adams Family, Gin Gin, made $3.81/kg ($813 and $776).

Charbray steers from Maree Duncombe, Conondale, made $3.80/kg ($856).

Droughtmas­ter steers from Selwyn Tombs, Kandanga, sold for $3.57/kg ($730).

Weaner steers generally sold from $3.25-$3.81/kg.

Limousin cross heifers from the Joynson Family sold for $2.95/kg to return $1159 while their brahman sisters sold for $2.90/kg ($976).

Droughtmas­ter cross heifers from Lyall Paulger, Kenilworth, made $3.13/kg ($1084), charbray weaner heifers from the Wagner Family made $3.35/kg to return $907 and $728.

Brahman heifers from the Bishop Family, Woolooga, sold for $3.45/kg ($770).

Droughtmas­ter heifers from Parshot Pty Ltd sold for

$3.25/kg ($681).

Droughtmas­ter heifers from Tony Erikson, Langshaw, made $3.21/kg ($694).

Good conditione­d vealer heifers generally sold from $2.80-$3.05/kg.

Only a handful of cows and calves were yarded and sold to a top of $1250.

ROMA STORE

A TOTAL of 9485 head of cattle were consigned at Roma’s Store Sale on Tuesday.

Weaner steers under 220kg topped at 428c/kg and averaged 393c/kg, weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 388c/kg and averaged 351c/kg.

Steers in the 280-350kg range reached 384c/kg and averaged 344c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 356c/kg and averaged 325c/kg.

Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 334c/kg and averaging 315c/kg.

ED Cattle Co – Strahellen Station, Torrens Creek – sold EU accredited angus-cross steers for 408c/kg at 211kg returning $862/head.

The angus-cross heifers sold for 372c/kg at 195kg returning $727/head.

JJ & LJ Sullivan – Lingard, Mitchell – sold simbrah steers for 402c/kg at 180kg returning $726/head.

The simbrah heifers sold for 372c/kg at 172kg returning $640/head.

The simbrah-cross heifers sold at 342c/kg for 277kg returning $949/head.

M& M Bright – Karoola Park, Roma – sold angus-cross steers for 376c/kg at 232kg returning $875/head.

The angus-cross heifers went for 332c/kg at 228kg

NW & BE York – Yorkaringa, Wallumbill­a – sold hereford heifers for 312c/kg at 354kg returning $1106/head.

Cows in the 300-400kg range topped at 248c/kg and averaged 185c/kg, while the 400-500kg reached 250c/kg, averaging 204c/kg.

Cows over 500kg topped 230c/kg and averaged 220c/kg.

Yackatoon Grazing Co – Langrantha, Wandoan – sold droughtmas­ter cows for 245c/kg at 386kg returning $948/head.

DALBY CATTLE

THE supply of stock at last week’s Dalby cattle sale increased by close to 1000 head.

A large group of buyers was present and operating and included some additional buyers in the feeder sections.

Restockers and background­ers were very active on the light weight yearling steers and heifers and light weight yearling steers averaged 2c/kg dearer however the heifer portion improved by 11c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed continued to receive strong competitio­n.

The heavy weight yearling steers to feed averaged 13c/kg better while a good

sample of medium weight grown steers to feed were noticeably dearer.

A larger number of heavy grown steers and bullocks to export slaughter allowed average prices to ease by 4c to 7c/kg.

Prices for the better end of the cows remained close to firm while the plain condition lines were marginally dearer.

Steer calves returning to the paddock made to a top of 432.2c/kg with a large sample of mixed sex calves averaging 381c/kg.

Light weight yearling steers to restockers made to 431.2c/kg with a large selection averaging 373c/kg.

Medium weight yearling steers to feed made to 360c/kg with most around 342c/kg.

Heavy weight yearling steers to feed made to an isolated 350.2c/kg to average 332c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers were well supplied and most sold around 345c/kg with sales to 364.2c/kg.

Medium weight yearling heifers to feed averaged 318c/kg and made to 336.2c/kg.

A fair sample of 4 tooth steers in the mid-450kg range to feed made to 322.2c/kg.

Heavy grown steers to export slaughter made to 305.2c/kg to average 299c/kg and most of the bullocks sold around 297c/kg with sales to 307.2c/kg.

Medium weight 2 score cows averaged 214c/kg and made to 220.2c/kg and the best of the medium weights made to 247.2c/kg to average 234c/kg.

A fairly large sample of good heavy cows made to a top of 255c/kg to average 245c/kg. Heavy bulls made to 274.2c/kg.
