New mini-golf course on cards
Plans for facility at Warwick Indoor Recreation and Aquatic Centre
A NEW mini-golf course is on the cards for Warwick, with the perfect site already scoped out.
Southern Downs Regional Council resolved to undertake the design for a mini-golf facility.
The proposal is for the course to be built at Warwick Indoor Recreation and Aquatic Centre on Palmerin St.
The centre has been identified as already having the required infrastructure to support mini golf including the necessary space as well as a cafe, pool, changing rooms and public toilets.
A draft design will be prepared and placed on exhibition for community consultation and feedback for 28 days.
A mini-golf facility will provide recreation opportunities for teenagers, families and children, as well as appealing to visitors and tourists to the region.
The cost of design is estimated to be about $3000 to $5000.
It is the council’s intention to apply for grants if the project proceeded to construction.
The cost of the facility is dependent on the final design.
The mini-golf facility is to form part of a wider sport and recreation master plan which considers other recreational endeavours throughout the Darling Downs.
Preliminary discussions have been held with the operators of WIRAC and YMCA Brisbane, who have indicated broad support for a mini-golf facility.
Southern Downs Mayor Tracy Dobie said an added benefit of the mini-golf facility was the potential employment opportunities for local residents.
She said it would boost employment for younger people.
“The centre will also provide recreational activities for young people and encourages visitors to stay longer in our region,” she said. ROLL IT: A new mini golf facility is planned for Warwick.
