‘Not right’ Lamb to miss Crows

- — Chris Cavanagh

CARLTON is confident Jed Lamb will be sidelined for only one week with concussion as the Blues set their sights on a big challenge against Adelaide at the MCG today.

Lamb trained yesterday but was “not right” according to Carlton officials and was one of six changes to the Blues’ side to take on the Crows.

Lamb was knocked out by a swinging left arm from Richmond’s Bachar Houli last Sunday, for which the Tiger received a four-match ban from the AFL Tribunal Appeals Board on Thursday.

“Bachar reached out to Jed which was a great gesture,” Carlton coach Brendon Bolton said yesterday.

“I think what’s happened here, the AFL have said the welfare of players is really important and the head’s sacrosanct.

“Jed’s got no structural damage, but not quite ready to play. Maybe another week.”

Irish defender Ciaran Sheehan will play his first game for the Blues since Round 23, 2014, having impressed at VFL level in recent weeks.

“(It’s a) great story of resilience and perseverance coming from Ireland and suffering quite a few little injuries along the way,” Bolton said.

“He’s taken some real steps forward in the VFL

this year and this game will tell him that there will be more steps required but it’s great that he’s forced his way in through form.”
