Mountaineers looking to shine on Sunshine Coast

-

BASKETBALL: Another testing weekend in the QBL cauldron awaits the Toowoomba Mountaineers when they venture to the Sunshine Coast today.

The Mountaineers men are searching desperately for their second season win while the women’s team are win-less after nine rounds.

But the stiffness of the League is again on show this week when the men front-up tonight against USC Rip City at USC Sports Stadium.

Rip City has dropped only one game this season to hold down third spot on the 14-team QBL ladder.

But the Mountaineers are sure to take some added confidence into the game after pushing the Brisbane Capitals — who hold an identical record to Rip City — at home last week before going down 72-65.

The men complete their weekend double-header tomorrow against Sunshine Coast Phoenix at Caloundra Indoor Sports Complex at 2pm in a game where they’ll fancy their chances of a break-through victory.

The Phoenix have only two wins on the board this season and the Mountaineers will be looking for a strong back-up performance within 18 hours of tonight’s match to claim their second season scalp.

The Mountaineer women also face Rip City and Sunshine Coast Phoenix who both sit on the bottom half of the women’s ladder.

Rip City has posted three wins in eight rounds while the Phoenix are two-from-10.

The Toowoomba women will also be confident of a strong showing this weekend after a solid performance last Saturday against the Brisbane Capitals last week who came out on top 83-66.
