MOVIE: Jane Eyre 7TWO, 8.30pm, M (2011)

A story that has been made into a film 18 times before, not to mention a raft of made-for-television versions, is under immense pressure to live up to the best and set itself apart from the rest, and Cary Fukunaga’s effort impressively surpasses all previous cinematic versions. An original approach that is still finely attuned to Charlotte Bronte’s classic 1847 novel, a confident cast, magnificent cinematography and exquisite detailing make this adaptation fresh and inspired. Australian actress Mia Wasikowska deserves special mention as the leading lady.
