News out of Origin camps

- Rikki-Lee Arnold

TIM Glasby has vowed to not make any mistakes when it comes to James Maloney in next week’s Origin decider after missing a crucial tackle on him during his Game Two debut.

In a nightmare introduction to the Origin arena, the Queensland forward let the Blues five-eighth slip through his fingers just two minutes after coming on to the field, with NSW winger Brett Morris scoring from the play.

While Glasby set about redeeming himself with a solid effort as the game progressed, including running for 68m and making 18 tackles, the missed tackle is not a mistake he is willing to make again.

The Melbourne prop, who has been labelled a perfectionist by those closest to him, said he plans to spend time in the lead-up to Origin III doing his research on Maloney.

“I’d like to think (it wouldn’t happen again),” Glasby said.

“He’s a fast player and very skilful so I’ll have a look at a better way to defend that.

“If you let him get on your outside, he’s very hard to stop, especially for someone like me.

“I don’t know too many frontrowers who would be able to catch James when he gets on their outside like that but I’m sure there’s a way to do it.

“I’ll be looking at that and practising through the week.”

Glasby said aside from the slip in his defence, he was otherwise happy with his Origin debut.

But he is far from satisfied with the overall experience of his first series.

With the shield still up for grabs in next week’s Suncorp Stadium showdown, the 28-year-old said the biggest thing he wants to take away from his maiden series with Queensland is a victory.

“A win, that’s all that really matters,” Glasby said of the decider.

“It’s a really important game and we’ll just be going out there to win. That’s the main thing.

“There’s a few things I still need to work on and fix up.

“But it has been a great experience and I cannot wait to go again this time around (in Origin).

“I’ll do whatever they need me to do.

“I’ll get in there and rip in.”
