RUGBY UNION: With only five fixture rounds remaining in the 2017 Wagners Wellcamp Risdon Cup two matches today are set to impact heavily on the make-up of this season’s finals’ series.

Today’s round 14 games feature four of the six teams fighting for five finals’ spots.

USQ and Rangers meet in this week’s match of the round at USQ Oval.

Saints hold down third spot with Rangers breathing down their neck, just three points further back.

The teams have similar tough roads home to the finals kicking off on August 12 and a top-three finish for either team could hinge on today’s result.

USQ won the first-round clash of the sides with a late penalty goal giving it a 31-29 victory at Gold Park.

The teams sit fifth and sixth on the ladder respective­ly and with both sides finding encouragin­g mid-season form a win today is vital to their finals’ push.

The Cods back-up today after inflecting a rare defeat on Goondiwind­i 22-21 at the Fish Tank last Saturday.

Bears today host their Ladies Day which coincides with the Women 7’s Carnival also being held at Heritage Oval.
