University of Southern Queensland celebrates its 50th anniversary
USQ celebrates 50th milestone
FORMER University of Southern Queensland senior lecturer (acting) Robert Ketton entertained the audience with tales from USQ’s history and stories of successful alumni at the USQ Anniversary Celebration Dinner.
The dinner, held Friday, was part of the year-long celebrations of 50 years as a higher education institution and 25 years as a university.
“I was involved in USQ’s 40-year celebrations and it was a real privilege to be welcomed back for the 50/25 anniversary,” Mr Ketton said.
“I’d like to say I’ll be available for USQ’s centenary too but we might have to see how things go.”
The entertainment line-up on the night featured cabaret sensation Bethan Ellsmore, Australian comedy trio Tripod, and Midnight Groove, who had guests dancing well into the night.
USQ Vice-Chancellor Janet Verbyla said it was wonderful to see so many familiar faces back at USQ.
“As well as members of the wider Toowoomba community and current USQ staff and students, there were also people who had valuable roles in USQ’s growth present at the dinner,” she said.
“Milestones like this year’s 50/25 anniversary give us the chance to acknowledge, celebrate with, and thank those who have helped USQ become the globally accessible, world-class university that it is.”
Profits raised will be donated to the USQ Student Endowment Fund.
University of Southern Queensland: 50 Years 50 Stories is available from Omnia Books and Beyond at USQ Toowoomba, USQ Springfield and USQ Ipswich or online at usq.edu.au/50-25, for $39.95.
