POLICE are investigating whether speeding and not wearing a seatbelt were major contributing factors in a crash which claimed the life of a young Pittsworth man at the weekend.

Bryce McLoughlin, 18, was flung from a Mazda 6 sedan when it left Golf Course Rd and rolled a number of times, coming to rest about 50m from the road.

Mr McLoughlin died of his injuries at the scene.

Initial investigations suggest he had left a licensed venue in Pittsworth about 12.20am Sunday and had been travelling south.

Police are investigating whether the vehicle was speeding at the time the car failed to navigate a sharp left-hand bend in the road near the intersection of Jentz Rd.

A passing motorist made the grisly discovery about 9am Sunday.

Toowoomba City Patrol Group Inspector Stephen Angus said the Forensic Crash Unit was continuing to piece together the moments leading up to the rollover.

“The driver had failed to negotiate the bend,” Insp. Angus said.

“The vehicle has then rolled a number of times.”

It was a tragic weekend on the state’s roads with five people killed in four separate crashes on the final day of school holidays.

The bodies of two people were found inside a burning car north of Wallumbilla on Sunday afternoon.

Emergency services received reports of a car on fire on the side of Mount Everdale Rd at Wallumbilla North about 4.20pm Sunday.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services extinguished the fire and conducted a search of the vehicle at which time the bodies of two people were found inside.

Police said initial investigations suggested the car left the rural road and struck a tree before it was incinerated.

DNA testing is under way in an effort to formally identify the occupants of the vehicle.

Elsewhere in the state, a woman, aged in her 50s, died after a single vehicle crash into a tree on the Gold Coast just before 8pm Sunday.

A male cyclist aged in his 40s died when he collided with a vehicle near Mount Nebo early Sunday morning.

Anyone with information regarding any of the crashes is urged to contact Policelink on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
