KIKKI.K Toowoomba manager Ruth Sercombe loves the daily interaction of retail.

“Retail is such a people industry, but the thing I love most about kikki.k is that I become a part of our customer’s journeys, enabling their stories,” she said.

“It’s more than perfect pens and pretty paper, daily appointments and weekly reminders, it’s about inspiring in-store workshops, customer’s personal goals, creative expression, finding dreams and discovering practical steps to get there.”

Ms Sercombe, who was born in Toowoomba and chose to stay in the city, started her career as a Thursday night and Saturday casual selling jewellery while she studied full-time.

“I discovered retail fitted my passion as a people-person remarkably well, so that’s what I pursued,” she said.

“Thankfully, I had a boss who saw my management potential and encouraged me to go for it.

“After six years in retail management, I can honestly say I’m so glad she did.”

Ms Sercombe has been the manager of the Grand Central store since it opened in September 2016.

While she may wake up at home, she said her day really started at Grand Central Shopping Centre.

“I chat with my coffee barista, grab my favourite warm toastie and do a little victory dance when I hit the store. Then it’s about setting my daily goals and checking in with staff,” she said.

“Once the doors are open, it’s all about inspiring and empowering our guests to live their best life, helping them find the perfect solution amongst our beautiful, Swedish-designed products.

“We might sell stationery, but we’re on the go all the time, having fun with our customers.”

When she’s not at work, she said she enjoyed catching up with friends.
