Cordner fit for the decider

-

NSW Blues captain Boyd Cordner has declared himself fit to play in tomorrow night’s State of Origin decider at Suncorp Stadium.

Cordner has been hampered with a calf injury for the past three weeks and has not played since the Blues’ loss to the Maroons in the second game of the series.

However, he told reporters from his Blues training camp in Kingscliff that he is “100%” ready to go.

“I did the whole session yesterday (Sunday) and it has given me more confidence,” Cordner said.

He said he pulled up well yesterday morning and was ready to help secure the Blues a first series win since 2014.

He did concede he had faced some mental hurdles.

“It’s a lot easier being in camp because you have that 24-hour access to the physios and everything that’s provided here,” Cordner said.

“It just puts the ball back in my court. It’s been stressful mentally, but in regards to recovery and rehab and having everything there for me, it’s been unreal.”

Cordner was unsure whether he would play when he arrived in camp in Kingscliff in northern NSW.

“To be honest, at the start of the week I was deadset up in the air about whether I’d be right or not. But come Wednesday and Thursday, it really took a turn,” he said.

“I was more nervous before yesterday’s training run. It was a pretty big session, so I got through most of that pretty good. And then this morning it pulled up pretty good as well.”

The Blues players had yesterday off before finalising preparations in a captain’s run at Cbus Stadium.

The Sydney Roosters star said he had needed a break from his recovery.
