ABOUT 180 people have embarked on a journey which will cover more than 5000km across rugged bushland.

Toowoomba entrants in the Road Boss Rally left the region last Wednesday and headed to Gladstone in preparation for the rally’s official kick-off yesterday.

More than one dozen cars from the Darling Downs signed up for the 10-day journey which is bound for Tamworth via the Boulia Camel Races.

Road Boss Rally raises funds for the GIVIT charity.

GIVIT is a national not-for-profit connecting those who have with those in need, in a private and safe way.

Before the convoy even began yesterday $220,000 had been raised.

Toowoomba-based founder Jamie Lawson said GIVIT was small and relatively unknown but was doing a mighty job.

About $50,000 of the funds raised though the rally last year were given to victims of Cyclone Debbie.

GIVIT CEO Juliette Wright said she was amazed at the support.

“The generosity is overwhelming. We have already hit $220,000 and the rally hasn’t even started,” she said.

“GIVIT is a charity that really helps people and if you donate we guarantee it will go to someone in need.”
