DO bad people look like good people? Like friends, boyfriends or students? How can you tell the difference? They might seem harmless until it’s too late and they have their hands around your throat.

The Student follows Nate Byrne, a young student struggling to run away from his past. He has blocked out a portion of his life to study business and move up in life. He works part time at McDonald’s but his full-time income comes from a partnership with his best friend Jesse.

Iain Ryan’s novel is set close to home at the University of Queensland Gatton campus and takes the reader through the dark side of campus life.

The reader is taken through the drugs and partying lifestyle of students. They are given an insight into Nate’s lifestyle as a small-town drug dealer. However things quickly progress when Jesse - his best friend and supplier goes missing. Suddenly the simple life Nate has created for himself begins to rip apart at the seams.

The fast-paced noir thriller is based in the mid 90s and brings to light issues of murder, drug abuse and home-made pornography.

The self-destructive protagonist takes matters into his own hands and follows the dark tale through the twists and discoveries in a sinister world.

Nate always believed he was just touching the surface of the drug world and that he was safe to continue without disturbances; that is until danger comes knocking on his door step in the shape of two bikies.

Iain Ryan shows that no matter where you sit on the ladder - whether you deal, use or even run the game – drugs are a dangerous business.

dark and sinister their thoughts are.

This book is a definite page turner and keeps the reader on the edge of their seat.
