Evil Genius 2 is in the works

-

FANS of the original Evil Genius games rejoice.

Rebellion CEO Jason Kingsley has used an interview to announce his team is officially working on a sequel to the lair-builder.

Kingsley admitted the follow-up had been a sure thing since the franchise came to Rebellion and has made it clear that the new title will not be a remaster but a full-on sequel.

Even more encouragingly for fans is the news that Evil Genius 2 will not be free-to-play, hopefully avoiding the mess of microtransactions marring other contemporary titles.

Currently, the team is focusing on a PC release only, though they have said they are looking at the potential for other platforms as well, but with nothing definite.

Development is still in the technology phase as the team at Rebellion works out the best way to bring the game to life.

This will be the first real-time strategy built in Rebellion’s in-house Asura engine so we’re told a lot of tweaking is required before expanding the team, settling on game design and beginning production.

Evil Genius 2 was almost announced a few years ago as a crowd-funded title but the decision was made to drop the idea.

In a release, Kinglsey said the success of other Rebellion IPs put the company in a position where they didn’t need to ask fans to pay for the title’s development.
