Trbojevic already planning revenge

- — Dean Ritchie

BLUES forward Jake Trbojevic has declared: “Next year can’t come quick enough.”

NSW will have to endure yet another 12 months of pain after losing an 11th State of Origin series in the past 12 years.

It was a gutted NSW dressing room at Suncorp Stadium on Wednesday night, players fully aware any chance of redemption would be at least 12 miserable months away.

“This will hurt for a while – I really want to get back out there next year,” Trbojevic said.

“It’s such a long time in between each series. Obviously after the second game (loss) we only had to wait three weeks to play again and fix things up.

“It hurts a lot, we were definitely in a position to win the series. We let it slip and it only makes you hungrier I guess. We want next year to come quickly.”

The Blues were off the pace on Wednesday night against a red-hot Maroons side. It was a bitterly disappointing end to a series that started with so much promise for NSW.

“We just didn’t meet expectations, especially in a decider – to toss up a performance like that is frustrating but full credit to them, they played a really good game,” Trbojevic said.

“It probably sounds cliched but you have to play for the full 80 minutes. That second game, we were probably the better team for most of the game.

“But we came away with a loss, it was pretty frustrating. You have to play for the full 80, and they did that. They were on top from the first minute, such a quality team. It’s really disappointing.”

Trbojevic will play for Manly against the Tigers at Brookvale on Sunday facing Blues teammates Aaron Woods and James Tedesco.
