Cowgirl at top of game

-

CHARTERS Towers rider Darcy Kersh has won two titles in the Junior National Finals Rodeo at Emerald.

The finals for the top 10 in each event were held over three rounds in conjunction with the Emerald Rodeo, the first on the Northern Run in the Australian Professional Rodeo Association.

Kersh won the team roping header title and the all around title after going into the finals with leads in three of the standings lists.

He capped a fine rodeo at Emerald with second in the open rope and tie behind Scone rider Heath Nichols.

The breakaway roping was won by Emerald cowgirl Ellysa Kenny who started with a win in round 1.

Junior steer ride title winner Toby Hale, champion calf roper Danny Wildermuth and barrel racing champion Ellie Gard also started with wins in round 1.

None of the riders had a catch in round 1 in the battle for the team roping heeler title but Kobe Miller won the final two rounds to secure the title.

Meanwhile, Emerald cowgirl Leanne Caban won the breakaway roping and barrel racing double in open events at the Emerald Rodeo.

She has been at the top of the breakaway roping standings most of the season but also shone in the barrel

race at her hometown rodeo.

Caban finished ahead of NSW rider Jo Caldwell in the barrel race and was .35 of a second ahead of runner-up Tenielle Middleton, of Hughenden, in breakaway roping.

Brady Fielder recorded the highest score in a rough stock event, 80, to win the bull ride at Emerald.

The next rodeo on the Northern Run will be at Taroom on July 22.
