Steady numbers at sales

TOOWOOMBA CATTLE

THERE was a small reduction in supply and young cattle were in the largest numbers along with a few heavy grown steers and a reduced number of cows.

The trend of a smaller number of buyers on the young cattle continued, however some additional export buyers were operating in the cow section. Apart from well bred light weight yearling steers to restockers receiving strong demand, the remainder were about 8c/kg cheaper.

Medium weight yearling steers to feed lost a further 9c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers sold to a market 12c to 28c/kg less. Heavy grown steers were 3c to 8c/kg cheaper and a lesser quality line-up of cows struggled to maintain a firm trend.

Well bred light weight yearling steers returned to the paddock at 390.2c with a good sample averaging 341c/kg.

Medium weight yearling steers to feed made to 331.2c with most around 323c/kg. A handful of heavy weight yearling steers to feed averaged 305c and made to 318.2c/kg.

A fairly large supply of light weight yearling heifers sold from 282c to 290c with a few reaching 314.2c/kg.

Medium weight yearling heifers to the trade averaged 278c and made to 281.2c/kg.

The plainer end of the heavy grown steers averaged 270c while some better lines averaged 282c and made to 291.2c/kg.

Medium weight 2 score cows averaged close to 209c and the best of the medium weights averaged 224c/kg.

Good heavy cows made to 230.2c to average close to 227c/kg.

Heavy bulls made to 250.2c/kg.

MORETON CATTLE

AGENTS yarded a head of 380 head of cattle yarded on Tuesday at Moreton.

Cows and veal sold to a slightly dearer market.

Feeders sold to an unchanged market with numbers easing.

Good background­er cattle sold to a firm market with a stronger panel of buyers in attendance.

Euro x yearling heifers account E Pye sold for 308.2c/kg weighing 295kg to return $909.

Euro x yearling steers account Ping Grazing sold for 339.2c/kg weighing 227kg to return $771.

B and M Scheiwe sold charolais pasture heifers for 294.2c weighing 460kg to return $1353.

B and J Waters sold charolais x steers for 289.2c weighing 692kg to return $2002.

Debra Chandler sold D’master x bullocks for 250.2c/kg weighing 980kg to return $2451.

ROMA STORE

THERE was a majority yarding of weaners where 8388 head were sold at Roma store Sale, up 1865 head on last week.

All buyers were present with additional restockers active in a market attracted by the class of the weaners consisting of large runs of exceptiona­l quality and superior lines.

Calves under 200kg made to 394c, light weight steers in the 200-280kg range made to a top of 396.2c/kg to return to the paddock.

Steers going to background­ers prior to feed, in the 280-330kg range, made to a top of 390.2c to average 352c/kg.

Feedlot entry weight steers in the 330-400kg range made to a top of 376.2c to average 341c/kg.

4-6 tooth Bullocks to processors made to a top of 284.2c and light bulls to restockers made to 342.2c to average 323c/kg.

Heifers in the 200-280kg range made to a top of 390.2c to average 316c/kg.

Heifers to feed topped at 316.2c to average 308c/kg.

ROMA PRIME

July 6

AGENTS yarded a head of 824 at Roma’s Prime Sale on Thursday.

Steers over 550kg sold to 288c/kg and averaged 276c/kg, while steers in the 400-550kg sold to 262c/kg, averaging 258c/kg.

BR Sinnamon – Tinhut, Jackson – sold brangus steers for 252c/kg at 670kg returning $1689/head.

Cows over 500kg peaked at 240c/kg and averaged 215c/kg, while cows in the 400-500kg class topped at 223c/kg and averaged 199c/kg.

Cows 300-400kg sold to 194c/kg and averaged 185c/kg.

RG and B Mobbs – Wallambank, Bollon – sold Charolais-cross cows for 240c/kg at 560kg returning $1344/head.

KF and KM Rule – Woodside, Charlevill­e – sold Charolais-cross cows for 229c/kg at 638kg returning $1464/head.

Heifers over 450kg sold to 260c/kg, averaging 251c/kg, while heifers in the 350kg-450kg range reached 256c/kg, and averaged 242c/kg.

IC Jackson – Elavirem, Injune – sold EU Accredited Angus-cross heifers for 256c/kg at 435kg returning $1114/head.

The Angus-cross cows sold for 220c/kg at 525kg returning $1157/head.

Bulls over 600kg earned to 268c/kg and averaged 243c/kg.

DALBY CATTLE

NUMBERS increased by 18 percent and there were a few more bullocks and cows from western districts included in the line-up.

A fair panel of export slaughter and feeder buyers was present and most were operating, however there was less restocker support on the light weight yearling heifers.

Light weight yearling steers

to restockers were cheaper in places, however managed to finish the day with average prices marginally better.

Most of the medium and heavy weight yearling steers to feed experience­d very little change in price.

A lift in the quality of the heavy grown steers and bullocks saw average prices improve.

Most of the cows generally sold close to the previous week level, however a lift in the quality of the good heavy cows resulted in average prices gaining 2c/kg.

A large selection of mixed sex calves sold to restockers to average 340c with some steer calves to 382.2c/kg.

Light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock mostly sold around 344c with some to 370.2c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed averaged 337c and made to 358.2c/kg.

Heavy weight yearling steers to feed sold around 316c with sales to the occasional 330c/kg.

A very large supply of light weight yearling heifers averaged 303c and sold to 328.2c/kg.

Medium weight yearling heifers to feed averaged 304c and made to 315.2c/kg.

A relatively small supply of heavy weight yearling heifers sold to feeder operators at 285c while some well bred lines sold to the local meat trade at 314.2c/kg.

Bullocks mostly sold around 287c with some to 296.2c while full mouth classes averaged 274c and made to 281.2c/kg.

Medium weight 2 score cows averaged 207c and made to 213c/kg.

Good heavy cows generally sold around 230c with an isolated sale to 243.2c/kg.

Heavy bulls made to 257.2c/kg.

BIGGENDEN

July 10 sale

BURNETT Livestock and Realty’s meatworks and store sale on Monday saw a large yarding of 2417 head selling to a mostly firm market.

Heavy bulls topped at 273c; bullocks sold to 279c; cows over 500kg topped at 259c; cows 400kg to 500kg topped at 243c; trade heifers over 400kg topped at 310c.

RJ and KJ Preston, Eidsvold, sold brahman cross bullocks for 284.2c/$1767.

Santa cross bullocks from Taroom topped at 273c/$1848. CD and VE Jensen, Biggenden, sold droughtmas­ter bullocks for 279c/$1783.

BE and GI Kirk, Gayndah, sold brahman cows for 239c/$1599.

Santa cross cows from Taroom sold for $215c/$1495.

G Kerby, Biggenden, sold Charbray cross cows for 228c/$1460.

Elsebach Grazing, Gayndah, sold brahman heifers for 258c/$1402.

R and M Shervey, Gin Gin, sold droughtmas­ter cross heifers for 255c/$1244.

AG and MF Isler, Theodore, sold heavy santa bulls to top at 269c/$2979.

BR and BJ Christense­n, Miva, sold charbray bulls for 269c/$2395.

Feeder steers 400kg to 500kg sold to a top of 327c while steers 300kg to 400kg sold to 346c.

Steers 200kg to 300kg sold to 372c.

Heifers 300kg to 400kg sold to a top of 332c.

Heifers 200kg to 300kg topped at 326c.

Wandoan, Theodore, Eidsvold, Gin Gin, Miva, Lowmead, Childers, Bundaberg, Miriam Vale, Yandaran, Chinchilla, Mundubbera, Monto, Gayndah, Mt Perry, Maryboroug­h, Hervey Bay, Booubyjan, Windera, Rosedale and all local areas.

The next Biggenden meatworks and store sale is Monday, July 24.

WARWICK

THE supply of stock increased by 127 head and the trend of young cattle in the largest numbers continued.

A fair panel of export buyers was present and operating however, there was a reduced number of buyers in the young cattle section.

Prices for young cattle declined further, with light weight yearling steers to restockers 8c cheaper and medium weight yearling steers to feed back 13c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers averaged 9c to 19c/kg less.

Bullocks to export slaughter averaged 2c dearer and good heavy cows were generally firm with plain conditione­d classes 4c/kg better.

Steer calves returning to the paddock made to 398.2c with mixed sex calves around 345c/kg.

Light weight yearling steers sold to restockers at an average of 342c with some to 368.2c/kg.

Medium weight yearling steers to feed averaged 320c and made to 326.2c/kg.

A handful of heavy weight yearling steers to feed averaged 316c and made to 320c/kg.

A fair supply of light weight yearling heifers sold from 282c to 301c with occasional sales to 322.2c/kg.

Medium weight yearling heifers to feed averaged 284c

and a couple to the trade made to 328.2c/kg.

Bullocks made to 290.2c to average 286c and the occasional full mouth bullock made to 284.2c/kg.

Medium weight 2 score cows averaged 209c and the best of the medium weights made to 225.2c/kg.

Good heavy cows made to 230.2c to average 227c/kg.

Heavy bulls made to 307.2c/kg.

WARWICK SHEEP

July 5 sale

AGENTS yarded 2178 lambs and hoggets and 730 sheep at the weekly sale.

Top lambs account DA and LW Janke of Glenlea, Peranga sold for $163.

In a yarding of both sheep and lambs, the market was cheaper for all descriptio­ns.

Quotations: crossbred lambs 51-55kg $144-$158, 46-50kg $136-$153, 41-45kg $122-$138, 35040 $112-$124, 62.2kg $163, crossbred hoggets 52kg $111 (shorn).

Trade wethers $124 or $4.60/kg, light wethers $70 or $4/kg, heavy crossbred ewes $122 or $4.70/kg and light ewes $60 or $3.50/kg.

TOOWOOMBA PIGS

AGENTS yarded 156 pigs on Monday.

Pork sold a little dearer, sows sold a cheaper.

Store pigs in the right weight range sold to a dearer market with all other stores pigs cheaper, sows and litters $860 and a replacemen­t boar found a a new home at $650.

Quotations: prime pork $196, prime light bacon $190, prime bacon $180, boars $48, sows to $196, forward stores $182, weaners $115 and suckers $80.
