TRL BRIEFS

-

Warwick v Oakey OAKEY may not be in the running but the Bears will still try to have a say in the Hutchinson Builders TRL Premiership finals race as the Bears hunt a win over Warwick. The eighth-placed Cowboys host Oakey at Father Ranger Oval tonight and will be desperate to pick up the two competition points in a bid to stay in touch with the top six. Oakey has its own ideas on striving for victory as the Bears try to notch a second win this season. The Bears have named a strong team so the Cowboys will have to be on their game to get the win at home. Brothers v Souths SOUTHS will try to make it four wins in a row as the Tigers heap pressure on teams in the top six. Brothers host Souths at Glenholme Park tonight and the Leprechauns will come up against a Souths team growing in confidence.

The Tigers have posted three consecutive wins to move up to seventh on the ladder and in sight of a spot in the top six. Brothers on the other hand are enduring a tough season and will be out to lift against their cross-town rival. Boars v Pittsworth PITTSWORTH heads out the Gore Hwy as the Danes take on Goondiwindi at Gilbert Oval tomorrow.

The Danes are third on the ladder and will be keen to pick up the competition points against the last-placed Boars in Goondiwindi. Pittsworth is still in the hunt to secure a place in the top two so a win over Goondiwindi is a must. Wattles v Dalby WATTLES face a big challenge to keep its spot in the top six. Fifth-placed Wattles hosts ladder leader Dalby at Platz Oval tomorrow and wins are crucial for teams on the fringe of the top six.

The Warriors have three teams narrowly behind them so they need to keep getting results or they could drop out of the top six. Semi success HIGHFIELDS halfback Jarrod Lee scored a late try to help Australia down England 46-18 in their Universities World Cup semi-final in Sydney yesterday.

Lee, Michael O’Keefe and Mackenzie Reid will now be part of the Australian squad that contests Sydney’s final.
