Landmark Harcourts get behind ManUp message

-

LANDMARK Harcourts Toowoomba ManUp for prostate cancer once again.

Prostate cancer is the third most common cancer diagnosed in Australia and the third most common cause of cancer death – one in five men will be diagnosed by the age of 85.

Early diagnosis and treatment not only saves lives, but can also significantly preserve the quality of life.

ManUp! for Prostate Cancer Australia, which has been operating since 2010, was founded with the aim of educating Australian men about the importance of regular testing for prostate cancer and supporting those living with prostate cancer.

“We do this through awareness campaigns and a free educational program, targeting men between the ages of 40 to 75 years in more than 69 rural communities in Queensland,” co-founder and director of ManUp! Australia Jill Costello said.

With more than 160 offices based primarily in non-metro and rural locations, regional lifestyle and healthcare is of particular relevance to the Landmark Harcourts team.

“Landmark Harcourts have been a proud sponsor of ManUp! for Prostate Cancer for the past four years via the Harcourts Foundation,” Landmark Harcourts Toowoomba business owner Mark Abra said.

All funds raised go towards either expanding the ManUp! Prostate Cancer Educational program or further developing a program of prostate cancer care nurses to support men and their families living with prostate cancer.

In 2016 ManUp! assisted with the placement of a specialist nurse based in the Toowoomba region.

A joint initiative by the It’s A Bloke Thing Foundation and ManUp! with funding assistance from Hand Heart Pocket, the nursing appointment means that prostate cancer patients no longer need to travel to Brisbane for specialist care and treatment.

“We are very committed to reaching men in regional and rural areas as men in these areas have a 32 per cent higher prostate cancer mortality rate than men in the metropolitan areas,” Ms Costello said.

“We’re privileged enough in Toowoomba to have ManUp! visit each year and educate our local community about prostate cancer detection and treatment,” Mr Abra said.

This year ManUp! is undertaking five rural educational tours throughout the 15 health regions in Queensland, which commenced in March and will finish by November.
