Crashing end to man’s run

A MAN’S desperate bid to evade police came to a crashing end when the car he had stolen to escape arrest got stuck in a fence.

Police will allege the 20-year-old man committed a string of offences spanning from the Western Downs to the South Burnett before he was arrested late last week.

Dalby police had spotted the man on patrols in the town last week when he is alleged to have evaded officers and fled north towards Kingaroy.

Police patrols in Kingaroy located the man on a property at Taabinga, just outside town, on Thursday afternoon.

The man allegedly stole a vehicle kept on the property and tried to evade arrest a second time when he crashed through a fence, causing the vehicle to stall.

An attempt to flee police on foot was unsuccessful and he was arrested a short time later.

The man, of no fixed address, was charged with 17 offences including one count of deprivation of liberty, two counts each of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, fail to stop for police and disqualified driving, and three counts each of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and trespass.

It will be alleged the man resisted police at the time of his arrest, leading him to be charged with one count of assault or obstruct police.

He appeared in Kingaroy Magistrates Court on Friday where police objected to bail.

He was remanded in custody and is due to appear back in the same court on July 31.
