Ripple Effect 2017 - Christian Outreach College Toowoomba

-

Here at Christian Outreach College Toowoomba we emphasise collaboration and creativity with an altruistic focus. The Ripple Effect is a secondary school initiative where students’ ideas are used to raise awareness and funds for organisations such as Compassion International. This year the emphasis was on social enterprise. Each year Secondary students spend their final week of Term 2 finalising projects for the wider community. Throughout the term, in small teacher-supervised groups, students from several year levels learn entrepreneurial skills such as persistence, hard work, planning, modifying of ideas that don’t initially work, as well as financial fundamentals like budgeting and ensuring their product satisfies their customers. Student initiative is strong and their involvement in the various activities is encouraging. There were many ideas and a lot of hard work! The projects culminated in a Multicultural Festival complete with food and a visiting speaker; a 2nd hand stall with books and local produce, a bootcamp, designing & planting kitchen market gardens plus a car wash! In total, these student-lead projects raised nearly $3,000!

In this safe environment students learn hands on skills such as teamwork, event planning & management.

We are privileged to be able to affect so many lives beyond our campus and are incredibly proud of our students.
