USQ scholarship unlocks tertiary education for Emma
THE day Emma Zillmann walked into her drama class in year eight she knew it was what she wanted as a career.
She is now studying a Bachelor of Secondary Education majoring in Drama and English thanks to a USQ Scholarship she received in high school.
Miss Zillmann, who calls Biloela home, was the recipient of a Vice-Chancellor’s Principal’s Recommendation Scholarship.
“It was a massive help,” she said.
“It not only meant I could move to university, it has also allowed me to focus on my study without worrying about financial pressures.”
Applications open tomorrow for a wide range of USQ scholarships for Year 12 high school students.
Forty $12,000 Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarships will be awarded to high academically achieving students.
USQ is also offering 10 $6,000 Future Community Leader Scholarships for students commencing full-time study. These scholarships are offered in recognition of students’ participation in the community and to provide maximum opportunity for students to start tertiary study at one of USQ’s campuses.
Miss Zillmann said applying for the scholarship in her final year of high school was one of the best decisions she had made.
“I encourage anyone to apply because there are so many opportunities for students at USQ,” she said.
The first-year education student remembers deciding where and what to study.
“I would recommend doing your research and figure out what you would like from your university,” she said.
“Have a chat to those studying or who have just finished. Certainly it is a big choice to make but it is a very rewarding one.
“I wanted to go to a university where I felt supported, where I knew my lecturers and fellow students. USQ was an obvious choice and the best decision I have ever made.”
