Year 3 butcher dream comes true for Aaron

-

EVER since he was a little kid, Aaron Vietheer wanted to be a butcher.

He wasn’t sure what piqued his interest, but that little Year 3 boy’s dream came true.

Mr Vietheer is the manager at Payne’s Meat Store in Toowoomba.

“I don’t know why I wanted to be a butcher, but I don’t wish I had done anything else,” he said.

He started his career 13 years ago, at the Northlands Shopping Centre’s Stafford Butchers shop.

Then he went down to Plainland Schultes Meat Tavern for six months before heading back up the range to Allora.

“Then the opportunity came up to work here (Payne’s) as the manager,” he said.

It’s a role he’s been in now for about four years and he still enjoys every minute.

Mr Vietheer’s day starts early, about 5am.

Since he lives at Allora, he makes the commute to work and walks in the shop about 6am.

Before his staff arrives at 7am, he said he did some preparation to open the store, which included opening doors, preparing the counters and setting up the machines.

Then after the staff started, he’d move onto preparing orders.

“Just getting ready for what the day will bring,” he said

He said all food was prepared on site, with the exception of wurst from Schultes Meat Tavern.

He said many products were “nitrate free” and some sausages were made without grains to help with people’s dietary needs.

When he’s not working, Mr Vietheer spends time with his fiancé Ashley and enjoys sports - cricket and touch footy in particular.

“I’m the president of the Allora Cricket Club, that tends to take up a bit of my free time, and I play touch footy in Toowoomba too.”
