A 26-YEAR-OLD woman charged with attempted murder arising from the shooting of a man outside a Rangeville residence last month has been granted bail with stringent conditions by a Toowoomba magistrate.

Ellanah Margaret Fay Wilson was charged on Monday and appeared briefly in custody before Toowoomba Magistrates Court yesterday.

She watched on from the court dock as her barrister Steve Kissick applied for bail on her behalf which was objected to by police.

Rakayia Dawson, 20, was shot in the knee and stomach outside a Curzon St home on July 19. He has since been released from hospital.

While no specific details of the allegations against the mother of three were aired in court, it is believed police do not claim she was present at the time of the incident but may have facilitated it.

Mr Kissick said his client had been in a relationship with the alleged victim in the past and that she had admitted to police she had spoken to “these fellows” who police wished to speak with about the incident but his client denied any knowledge of them having weapons.

“It is a defendable matter and she intends defending the matter,” Mr Kissick told the court.

His client had the care of a 10-month-old child while her mother had the care of another of his client’s children on the family’s property between Rockhampton and Yeppoon while a third child lived with that child’s father in Rockhampton, he said.

His client’s mother Donna Finnegan had travelled from Rockhampton to be in court for the bail application hearing and his client would return to the family property with her mother if granted bail, Mr Kissick submitted.

Magistrate Graham Lee said because it was alleged weapons were used the onus was put on the defendant to show cause why she should be released back into the community.

However, Mr Lee granted bail with strict conditions including Wilson abiding by a nightly curfew, to reside with her mother on the property, to report to Rockhampton police three times a week, have no contact whatsoever with the complainant man or any co-accused, and abstain from any illicit drug use and submit to random testing by police.

Mr Lee adjourned the case for committal mention back in the same court on September 26.
