Flight simulator to give visitors aviation insight
HAVE you ever wanted to take the controls of a fighter jet?
Aspiring pilots will have the opportunity to climb into the cockpit of an F18 Super Hornet simulator and experience the thrill of flying without leaving the ground at the USQ Toowoomba Open Day on August 13.
USQ Head of Aviation and Logistics Professor Paul Bates said the flight simulator is designed to give prospective students an insight into the aviation industry.
“This RAAF simulator experience is as close as anyone can come to flying a fast jet,” Professor Bates said.
“It will be the first time we’ve had something like this at an Open Day in Toowoomba.
“We hope this experience will encourage people to consider a career in the aviation industry, including the Air Force, as either a professional pilot or working in airline operations and management.”
USQ’s Bachelor of Aviation commenced at USQ Springfield last year and already has about 100 students involved in the program.
Students studying the Flight Operations major undertake flight training during their second academic year before having the opportunity to complete the third year of their degree online.
Professor Bates said he was expecting plenty of enquiries about the Aviation program at the Open Day, which runs from 10am to 2pm.
“Becoming a pilot is now within reach for many people, although it requires both commitment and capability,” Professor Bates said.
“The unique structure of our program makes it easier than ever to pursue an aviation career, and with the global aviation industry in a major period of growth, there’s no better time to start learning.”
