First QLD tour takes in Toowoomba

LILY and the Drum are heading to Queensland for the first time on a 17 date Chase the Sun tour, promoting their current album Buried in Blue.

The South Australian-based duo describes their music as alternative blues, roots rock and soul and features vocalist, guitarist Lily Higgins and John Yacka on drums, harmonica and backing vocals.

“We’ve enjoyed good support from radio stations in Queensland and look forward to catching up with fans,” the duo said.

“Having met quite a few Queenslanders in their travels they all say ‘you’ve got to come to Queensland’ so here we come! An added incentive is to leave the cold southern weather behind us for a month.

“Queensland is a big state and as much as we had hoped to play in as many towns as possible, the distance and travel logistics make it hard to achieve without assigning a few months to the tour which unfortunately was not possible on this trip.”

Six years ago, Lily Higgins and John Yacka performed six songs at a singer songwriter’s night in Adelaide unsure of how the audience would react to their songs and stripped back approach.

Now with over 560 performances behind them, three top 25 releases in national charts, four in the Top 10 on local Adelaide charts and over 200,000kms travelled through four states, they concede they are travelling musical troubadours and “loving it”.

In 2012 they released their debut album Nobody Just Like Me and in 2014, their next full length CD Welcome Change. They have recently released their third album Buried in Blue.

They have a strong commitment to touring with live performances at numerous festivals across Australia, opening for high profile artists such as The Black Sorrows, Mental As Anything, Tex Perkins, Cash Savage, countless smaller shows across the country along with fantastic radio support for their music has netted the duo a strong following and solid reputation.

They promise a “musical journey” straddling several genres and said they would also perform some great tunes by their favourite artists as well.
