Rally lads eye bigger target in Canberra

A TOTAL amount raised of $264,321 may seem like a lot for some, but the Road Boss Rally boys are aiming to take their charitable endeavours to the next level.

Fresh off the back of their Gladstone to Tamworth charity drive, Road Boss Rally founder Jamie Lawson was confident the team could surpass the quarter of a million it raised for charity GIVIT once again.

“You don’t want to be presumptuous, but when I say we did that without trying it’s because we don’t push our guys (to fund raise); we just lead by example,” he said.

But before they get a chance to relax, the team has a very important date in the nation’s capital on September 15. The Road Boss Rally crew is heading to Canberra on a road trip to raise even more money for GIVIT at the annual Canberra Floriade carnival.

The team shows no shortage of motivation, but singled out one event in particular that spurs them on.

“For us, we got flooded in 2011 and people came out of the woodwork, not only to help us, but businesses and families too,” team member Bernie Baz said.

“None of them wanted recognition, none of them wanted praise, none of them wanted thanks, they just thought that is what a community does.

“We will never work out who they were specifically to repay them but what we can do is put some effort into helping those less fortunate than us.”
