Grammar band wins section
IT WAS a case of boys versus girls in the Primary Brass Ensemble section at the 72nd City of Toowoomba Eisteddfod yesterday.
Toowoomba Grammar School’s Junior School Brass Ensemble battled it out with The Glennie School’s Year 5 Brass Band.
Brass adjudicator Trevor Beyer, who has won many state and national titles playing the trombone at brass band titles around Australia and New Zealand, congratulated both schools on their performances.
He awarded the winning score of 87 points to the Toowoomba Grammar School’s band.
He said the band had “great groove and style”.
City of Toowoomba Eisteddfod secretary Annie Callaghan said so far it had been a hugely successful competition.
She said the number of entries in the string sections was higher than last year, which was great to see.
She said a highlight of the instrumental section of the event had been the Year 11 and 12 string solos on Sunday.
“The standard was extremely high,” she said, noting that strings adjudicator Brendan Joyce congratulated the Toowoomba region on its high standard.
“It’s very encouraging to see what has been coming through,” Mrs Callaghan said.
She also thanked the 280 volunteers and music teachers from around the region for their support.
Dance sections begin today.
